2009 NCCC People's Choice Concours/Car Show

August 1, 2009 ~
The third year of the Home Depot/NICC Car Show was again a huge success. Success is not necessarily measured by how many
Corvettes attend, how much money is raised or who took home the awards. Those that attended the show, participants as well as passers-by, were again the elements
of success for the 2009 Show. With rain threatening all day, everyone that attended had an enjoyable day.
A total of 31 Corvettes from Illinois and Wisconsin braved the elements and came out of their garage to enter this year's show. Others stopped by for a visit throughout the day and
the Thomases' 1986 racer and Z06 were on display. Luanna Grimes and Johnny Chowaniec
from Home Depot were again important partners in making this year's show go
smoothly. Once again Home Depot was a marvelous Sponsor blocking off a huge show space,
purchasing all of the Trophies and donating supplies. From set-up to break-down, the Home Depot and all of its employees were terrific!!
The show would not have run as smoothly without all
of the help from the NICC Members. It was great to see so many NICC Shirts and smiles.
Carolyn Samuelson won a nice prize in the special drawing held for Members only. To be eligible, NICC Members needed to be wearing an NICC shirt.
Loves Park D.A.R.E. Officer Randy Jones and his wife, Judy, joined us even though Loves Park had announced in July that they were eliminating their D.A.R.E. program.
They brought the D.A.R.E. Corvette and van for their finale appearance at our Show. Officer Jones has decided to retire after 30+ years with the department and we wish him well.
Maybe the 2010 Show will find him and Judy as entrants as
Guests or maybe even as NICC Members. Thank you for the years you have given to the youth of our community and for your support of NICC.
The retired members of the Marine Corps League also joined us this year to
promote their branch of the US Military and assist with our Support the Troops
campaign. They added an element to the Show
equal to appearances by the active Army and Navy personnel at the previous shows.
They were a delight!
New to the Show this year was
crusin' music supplied by Jordan Chance of Luxe Productions. Jordan, along with Jason Schintgen, provided some fantastic music throughout the day that kept everyone movin' and a groovin'.
Officer Randy Jones was caught more than once dancin' and boppin' (see
picture at the top) to the beat of 50's and 60's music.
Their equipment also allowed us access to a great sound
system for announcements and awards...AND...they did all of the announcing.
They would be a marvelous company to work with if you are planning an event that would benefit from having a DJ Service.
They enjoyed seeing all of the Corvettes and meeting our Members and we hope they will join us next year.

A big thanks to
everyone who helped to make the 2009 Show a fun day and a successful undertaking. Keep your eye on the NICC Calendar for the date of the 2010 Show.
