COMPETITIVE EVENTS

Speed Event: Driving through a pre-determined course, usually marked by pylons, on a paved surface. The objective being to negotiate and skillfully maneuver the course as rapidly as possibly without knocking down pylons or going off course. There is only one driver on the course at a time. Each driver gets to run the course several times for a best time. The winner of each class is determined by the lowest elapsed time. There is also a Novice Program for the beginner set up to promote your desire to compete in the low speed autocross. Similar terminology: icekhana (yes, we race on ice), gymkhana, slalom, autocross, low speed (under 80 MPH) and high speed (over 80 MPH), etc.

Funkhana: Similar to an autocross except performing various skills and related tasks as required through the course by both a driver and a navigator. Score is determined by the best time.

Rally: A journey through the countryside by both a driver and a navigator over a pre-determined course as explained on a direction sheet. Points are earned by counting markers, answering questions, and/or stopping at checkpoints. A time-speed-distance rally is basically the same with the requirement that you maintain a given average speed between checkpoints. A hare and hound or poker type rally are usually based on the luck of entrants.

Economy Run: Similar to a rally except everyone starts with a full tank of gas on a given, directly spelled out course. After completing the course (with a light foot on the accelerator and pretending the gas was $10 a gallon) you will fill the tank again. The winner in each class is determined by the best average miles per gallon.

Concours: Auto show or beauty contest for cars. They are primarily for cleanliness, workmanship, and condition. Cars are grouped according to year and classified by any modification different from original. The Wash and Show and Street Show classes are for cars driven on a regular basis. The Concours Prepared class is for the very enthusiastic.

Drag Race: An acceleration test on a straight strip 1/8 or 1/4 mile in length. Two forms of drag racing provided: eliminator by class and eliminatory by ET brackets. Individual cars are scored on the lowest elapsed time. Class winners, Men's Top Eliminator and Women's Top Eliminator, as well as Overall Eliminator are determined during an event.

Matching Time Trial: Acceleration test in which you get several runs and your score is determined by the difference between the runs. Consistency is your goal.
