President's Corner

June 2008

NICC PresidentWhat a month! There were many things happening in the world of NICC Corvetting. We started the month out with our Adopt-a-Highway cleanup on Perryville. Had a great turn out and we were done in about an hour and a half. Thanks everyone for your participation.

What can you say about the Spring Run other than a big thank you to the Mayers and Mathews for pulling off a great event. We had nice top down weather, beautiful scenery, good food and drinks. The winery visit and brewery tour were both enjoyable and interesting. Even got to drive through a nursing home parking lot and wave to Joan Thomas’s Mom, friends and attendants at the home.

Between all the fun we squeezed in a Board Meeting, which will be the last for the summer. Everything is pretty well set the remainder of the year with the main objective to complete the club’s re-incorporation and the subsequent by-laws updates.

There were two fun parades. At the Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade we had a great turn out of 19 cars despite the threat of thunderstorms. As the old saying goes, it never rains on a parade, and it didn’t! Thank you Betty Beuth for inviting all of us back to your house for some libations and snacks. This was our second year for the Summer “Daze” Parade in Leaf River and like last year there was a big crowd. The club was well represented with 21 Corvettes. Following the parade we made a stop at Sam’s in Bryon for some ice cream. Thanks to Tony Kieffer for organizing the parade.

I know many of our racers have been out to events and picking up points. I understand some of them even went out to the NCCC National Convention site to get in a little practice ahead of time. I’m sure there will be a quite a collection of trophies and awards to be brought home by our members from convention.

We need a Chairman for the Hooter’s Show or we will have to cancel. If someone steps up, I’ll be happy to Co-Chair the show with them. If you have never done one this is an opportunity to learn something new. It’s one of the toughest shows because you have to work with the Hooter’s girls, but someone needs to make the sacrifice for the club.

Lots of fun things coming your way this month with the NCCC National Convention, Bloomington Gold Show, July 4th Shirland Parade and numerous racing events. Keep up to date by checking our web site for events and the latest information.

Save the Wave!
