Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade
Monday, May 26, 2008 ~ Parade Started at 2:00 PM
From President Harry Pointon:
We had a good turn out of 19 cars at the Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade despite the threat of thunderstorms. As the old saying goes, it never rains on a parade, and it didn’t! The Pec crowd always shows their appreciation and we all had a good time tossing candy to the kids. Following the parade we were all invited back to Betty Beuth's house for some libations and snacks. Thanks, Betty!

Leaf River Summer "Daze" Parade
Sunday, June 1, 2008 ~ Parade Started at 2:00 PM
From Parade Director Tony:
Mother nature cooperated and provided a beautiful sun filled day for the twenty-one (21) Corvettes that traveled to Leaf River to participate in their annual Summer Daze parade. We met at the Mobil Station on South Main Street in Rockford and took a leisurely cruise down Hwy 2 along the Rock River to get to Leaf River.
The parade was very well attended (we were #69 of 125 entries). This is quite an event for little Leaf River. As we had experienced last year EVERYONE in Leaf River and the surrounding communities showed up for the parade. We were thanked at least half a dozen times along the parade route by people on the side of the road for "coming down to attend our parade". These were sincere thanks from people that genuinely appreciated having us there. After the parade we again caravanned up Hwy 2 to Byron for a stop at Sam's Drive Inn for ice cream. A good time was had by all.
My thanks to every one that attended.

Young at Heart Parade
Saturday, May 26, 2007 ~ Parade Started at 9:00 AM
From Parade Director Tony:
The Loves Park Young at Heart Parade on Saturday was attended by fourteen (14) cars. The weather was cool and overcast but the rain held off for the parade. The new static clings worked out well  plus I think having stickers showing the various charitable "causes" we support went over well. After the run we took a brief tour through the countryside out by Caledonia and ended up at FIBS in Rockton for lunch. The food was great and everyone had a good time. It did start to rain while we were at lunch so unfortunately we did have to run home in the rain (not fun in a leaky mid-year with no windshield wipers and/or defroster....just ask Diana).

Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade
Monday, May 28, 2007 ~ Parade started at 2:00PM
From Parade Director Tony:
The Pecatonica Memorial Day Parade on Monday also went very well. The skies started to clear while we were waiting for everyone at Ghost-Town. By the time we got to Pecatonica it was sunny and hot! There was a total of seventeen (17) cars at this parade. The streets were jam packed with people and the kids were ravenous for candy. Everyone, both young and old, seemed to enjoy the cars.
After the parade we went to Betty Beuth's home for drinks and snacks. Betty did a great job as hostess and everyone enjoyed her hospitality. Thanks, Betty!

Leaf River Summer Daze Parade
Sunday, June 3, 2007
From Parade Director Tony:
We had a total of 16 cars that braved the weather and dodged the rain to make it to Leaf River. The ride down was dry and the weather turned out to be great....there was absolutely no rain before, during or after the parade. This parade was a pleasant surprise to all that attended. It was by far the best organized and hospitable parade we've yet to attend. They had a great line-up area for us off the road in the grassy lot next to the school. There was food and drink available as well as a lawn tractor "tractor pull" to entertain us as we waited. We were #59 of a total 135 entries. Every one of Leaf River's population of 500+ people showed up as well as their extended families.....the streets were packed....when we got into town 1-1/2 hrs before the parade they were already staking their claims in lawn chairs along the route! Eric Sorenson of WREX TV Channel 13 was the announcer. This is the first parade we've been to where they actually read the entire announcement that I supplied them about the club. The people were great, the kids were fun and everyone really (both spectators as well as club members) really had a great time. After the parade a few cars headed directly home, but the 6-7 that remained took a leisurely drive back to Byron for ice cream at Sam's Drive Inn before heading to the monthly meeting at Thunder Bay.

Shirland 4th of July Parade
Wednesday, July 4, 2007
We had 20 cars in attendance for the parade. We met at Panera Bread on Hwy 173 and caravanned up to Shirland taking a rather scenic route (led by Rod Bennett). The weather was overcast at first with a very slight drizzle, but it "cleared" by the time the parade started and we actually saw some sun. The parade route was lined with people. Both the adults and kids enjoyed the cars and the kids really appreciated the candy. After the parade we took a cruise (led by Steve Kostka) through the countryside just over the Wisconsin border and passed the Beckman Mill before returning to Rockton for Lunch at Fibs. The folks at Fibs (Mike & Mitzi) opened the place just for us for lunch....we were the only ones allowed in. The food, atmosphere and service was great as usual. For those of you that haven't tried Fibs I'd recommend that you stop in sometime and give them a try.....the quesadillas and bloody marys are great. I'd like to thank both Rod/Wendy and Steve/Kira for their help with both the before and after cruises for this parade.

Rockton's Old Settler's Day Parade
Saturday, July 7, 2007
We set a record with 21 cars in attendance at this parade. My thanks to everyone for such a great turnout! We again met at Panera Bread on Hwy 173 and traveled together to Rockton. Needless to say the weather was HOT, but the crowd cheered on the cars and the kids loved the candy. We were led in the parade by Loves Park D.A.R.E. Officer Randy Jones driving the D.A.R.E. corvette with its flamed paint job and its lights flashing.
The club was mentioned by name in the Sunday (July 8, 2007) Rockford Register Star report on Old Settlers Days.
From page #B1:
"The Police Department and American Legion Auxiliary led the parade. Bringing up the rear: A long line of colorful cars from the Northern Illinois Corvette Club, followed by two trucks and an ambulance from the Rockton Fire Protection District."
After the parade Steve Kostka (Thanks again Steve!) led the group on a tour through the countryside west of Rockton before returning to the Tony Kieffer/Diana Hendrickson house for snacks and refreshments.
